We begin this month Celebrating! One of the things I would like to celebrate is our new members. Since this time last year, we have been blessed to add eight new members to our family. Mike and Sara Woods, along with their children Landon and Raylynn, Kenneth and Michael Haley, Zane Webber, Eleanor Thompson, Ricky Viles, and Jenny Nichol, along with Cash and Charley. Some of these were friends long associated with St. Mark (Jenny), who decided to make a formal commitment to this church by transferring from her Baptist church in Georgia. Others were long-time members of the Clinton community who sought out St. Mark as a new church. Ricky came from First Baptist of Briceville, Zane from Freedom Crossing, and Ken and Michael by profession of faith. Michael’s baptism was a special day that was full of hugs and laughter. Others were new to our community. The Woods family moved here from Ohio and by the grace of God chose Clinton as their new home. Sara is active in our Good Sam program, and Mike will begin serving as a Trustee in 2018. Eleanor moved into Clinton as well, from Lavonia, Michigan, and joined by transfer from Clarenceville UMC. And so we say Welcome! And we are excited that you are here.
I have talked to some others who are interested in membership at St. Mark. So, I’m thinking it is time for a New and Potential Member Class. We’ll call it “Cross & Flame”. We will begin on October 22, and will meet during Sunday school time in The River room for 4-6 weeks (depending on how deep our discussions go). This will be for any new member, anyone considering membership, or for anyone who has been a long-time member but who wants to review our heritage and calling.
Topics will include:
- What is a Methodist?
- What is our history?
- What are the Means of Grace?
- What is our Social Creed?
- What is our structure?
- What are membership expectations?
